Changes expected in the energy and equatorial pitch angles of geomagnetically trapped particles are calculated, assuming the first and second adiabatic invariants are conserved, and the third invariant is violated. Figures are presented which enable comparisons to be made between theory and experimental measurements, and one such sample calculation is presented. Such calculations should provide a means of separating changes in the energy and mirror-point distribution produced by violation of the third invariant from changes produced by other mechanisms.
